London, 11 July 2016: His Excellency Ambassador Sheikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa hosted an event sponsored by MP Jack Lopresti in the Members Dining Room at the House of Commons on Monday, July 11. The event was in celebration of two hundred years of friendly relations and bilateral cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom. Guests included members of Parliament, dignitaries, diplomats, and members of the Bahrain Society, for which the Ambassador serves as President.
In his speech, His Excellency Sheikh Fawaz praised the ties between the two nations that spring from the “strong personal links at all levels of our societies, the ever-growing commercial exchanges, [and] vital partnership in promoting regional security and stability.”
The Ambassador went on to state that “Bahrain and the UK have proved time and again that we are natural and effective allies, whose shared values of fairness, openness and moderation underpin a unique and enduring partnership.”
Lopresti, MP for Filton and Bradley Stoke, opened the reception by acknowledging several of the significant shared endeavours of the two nations, including a joint business venture between Airbus and Bahrain’s national carrier, Gulf Air, and the establishment of Her Majesty’s Naval Base being constructed in Bahrain.
Brigadier Peter Sincock, Chairman of the Bahrain Society, also spoke referring to the deep roots that members have with Bahrain, noting a recent visit to the Kingdom.
The gathering was part of a series of events held in both countries to celebrate the bicentennial of the signing of a Treaty of Friendship between the two kingdoms.
