Born in the Kingdom of Bahrain on the 24th of April 1960.
Married to Shaikha Wesal bint Mohamed Al Khalifa.






Received his Primary and Intermediate education at West Rifaa's Boys School, and his Secondary education from the Islamic Scientific College in Amman, Jordan, in 1978.
In 1984, he completed his B.Sc. in History and Political Sciences from St. Edward's University, Texas, in the United States.
During his studies, he participated as a volunteer in many election campaigns in the United States, including the Jimmy Carter's 1980 Presidential campaign.




Appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, in September 26, 2005.






In 1985, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the rank of Third Secretary, on March, 1st 1985.


Between August 1985 and November 1994, he joined Bahrain's Embassy in Washington, D.C., where he was in charge of the Political, Congressional and Media affairs.


From June 1995- till August 2000, he worked as a Chief Liaison Officer, at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs; responsible for the Maritime Delimitation and Territorial Dispute between Bahrain and Qatar, in addition to other tasks.


In August 2000, he assumed the position of the Director of Public Relations and Information, at the Court of H.H. the Crown Prince.


Attended and participated in several conferences, summits and international meetings as a member of the delegation accompanying H.H. the Crown Prince and the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs; as well as many other official visits worldwide.


On 13th September 2001, appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Bahrain to:

The Court of St. James (the United Kingdom),

Kingdom of the Netherlands on 20th March 2002,

Republic of Ireland on the 3rd of May,

Kingdom of Norway on 29th of May 2002,

And to the Kingdom of Sweden on 13th of November 2003.

His Excellency is the chairman of the Committee on the Implementation of the Riyadh Agreement and a member of the Supreme Defense Council and the Ministerial Committee on Social Services, Media, Transportation Sector, and Communication Affairs. He is also a member of the ministerial committee to follow up labor issues, as well as on the board of trustees of Isa for Service to Humanity.

  • He was awarded the Bahrain Second Class Medal, by H.M. King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in May of 2001, in recognition of his contribution and role as a Liaison Officer during the Territorial Dispute between Bahrain and Qatar.
  • Received the Medal of Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa in February 2011 on the occasion of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the National Action Charter.
  • Granted the title of a Freeman of the City of London on 24 November 2005.
  • Awarded the Outstanding Achievement in Public Relations Award of 2012, by the Bahrain Public Relations Association for his role in the formulation of the mental image of the Kingdom of Bahrain internationally.
  • Granted honorary citizenship of the city of Istanbul, April 1, 2012
  • Won the Social Media Award in February 2012 and the Award for the most interactive personality
  • Won the Social Media Award in February 2013 and the Award for the most interactive personality
  • Won the award for Best Arab Political Figure in Social Media in 2015 at the Arab Social Media Influencers Summit in Dubai.




The Minister of Foreign Affairs is proficient in English and Spanish and is competent in Portuguese, in addition to Arabic his mother tongue.





His hobbies include reading about history, politics, social affairs and travel literature, as well as travelling and exploring countries around the world
