Non-Resident Ambassador of Kingdom of Bahrain to Kingdom of Spain hosts reception and luncheon to celebrate Bahraini National Day in Madrid
The Non-Resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Kingdom of Spain, Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, hosted a reception and a luncheon on the occasion of the Kingdom of Bahrain's national celebrations on 16 and 17 December, in commemoration of the establishment of the modern Bahraini state as an Arab and Muslim country founded by Ahmed Al-Fateh in 1783, the 48th anniversary of its full membership in the United Nations, and the 20th anniversary of His Majesty the King’s accession to the throne.
The ceremony was attended by a number of senior officials, including the Director-General for the Maghreb, the Mediterranean and the Middle East, Ambassador Eva Martinez, and the Chief of Protocol of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Caridad Batalla, in addition to a number of ambassadors and diplomats accredited in Madrid, academics, journalists and Spanish government officials.
In his welcoming speech, the Ambassador highlighted the depth of historical relations between the two friendly countries, especially between the two royal families, and the great importance that the Kingdom of Bahrain attaches to strengthening the existing cooperation with the Kingdom of Spain at all levels, especially political, economic and cultural. He also noted the Embassy’s endeavour to support cooperation and facilitate all necessary measures in order to expand cooperation, especially in the field of economics, and increasing trade exchange to reach the aspirations of the two governments and achieve the common interest of the two friendly countries.
The Ambassador affirmed the accomplishments achieved by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, especially in the areas of empowering women politically and economically, supporting the youth, and enhancing the pioneering role of the Kingdom of Bahrain as well in combating trafficking in persons. He also pointed out the Kingdom of Bahrain's distingushed experience in the region to promote inter-religious tolerance, especially through the (Kingdom of Bahrain Declaration) which seeks to promote the message of peace, tolerance and coexistence across the world, noting that the Kingdom of Bahrain is the best international model for establishing the values of tolerance and coexistence.
The Ambassador also touched on a number of major international events that the Kingdom of Bahrain hosted during 2019, including the Peace to Prosperity workshop with a view to supporting the sustainable economy of the Palestinian people, and hosting Ministerial’s Maritime and Aviation Security Working Group, which aims to combat terrorism and working to enhance their capabilities to support security and peace in the region, and the prominent role that the Kingdom of Bahrain seeks to achieve by hosting the headquarters of the International Alliance for Protection of Maritime Navigation.
Ambassador Eva Martinez affirmed her pride in the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, noting the ongoing communication between the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and her endeavor to intensify visits at the highest levels between officials in the two countries. She also expressed her hope to achieve a higher trade exchange that reflects the depth of bilateral relations, and noted her pleasure to have attended the Bahraini National Day ceremony in Madrid, which reflects the interest of the Kingdom of Bahrain to strengthen the existing ties between the two friendly countries at all levels.
