The Kingdom of Bahrain has given special attention to the environment and all of related components due to its value as a rich source of wealth.

Given the increasing pressure on the country’s limited natural resources, Bahrain has been seeking to make optimal use of its natural resources.

To achieve that goal, it uses safe means that do not harm the environment or affect public health.

It takes into consideration the working global preventive measures and addresses major environmental problems through the development of a national strategy aimed at protecting the environment.

It also takes all necessary legislative measures to limit pollution rates and provides industrial companies with the facilities they need to adapt to cleaner production.

The Kingdom has also signed several regional and international conventions in this regard such as:

  • Kuwait Regional Convention for Cooperation on the Protection of the Marine Environment from pollution and the Protocol thereto.
  • The Protocol for the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea against Pollution Resulting from Exploration and Exploitation of the Continental Shelf, and the Protocol on the protection of the marine environment from pollution from sources in the sea.
  • Accession to the International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage. (CLC)1969
  • United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
  • The Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants.
