Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Washington affirms the strategy of defense and security partnership with the United States
The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United States of America, Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, affirmed that the distinguished Bahraini-American relations in the military and security field reflect the successful and strong strategy of defense and security partnership linking the two countries.
This came during a speech of the Ambassador in a seminar regarding defense and security relations between the two friendly countries, which was organized at his residence in cooperation with the regional office of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS-Americas), based in Washington, DC.
The Ambassador stressed the keenness of the Kingdom of Bahrain under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two friendly countries to enhance regional and international stability and security, achieve prosperity for countries and protect their development gains.
He stressed the importance of developing trade exchange between the two countries, noting the direct link between the economic and defense relations. He also highlighted the development of the strategic partnership between the Kingdom and the USA, which started by signing the defense cooperation agreement in 1991 and concluding the Bahrain-US Free Trade Agreement in 2006, which resulted in the development of defense and security capabilities of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
He also referred to the successful visit by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to Washington last November, which resulted in the signing of trade deals worth more than ten billion US dollars, which is considered the largest in the history of the Kingdom, and the extension of the defense cooperation agreement for 15 years.
The seminar was attended by many experts and enthusiasts from the US government, the US Department of Defense, think tanks, universities and companies.
The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is based in the United Kingdom and has three regional offices in Singapore covering Southeast Asia, another one in Manama covering the Middle East, and one in Washington, DC, covering the two American continents. The Kingdom of Bahrain, in cooperation with the International Institute for Strategic Studies, host the Manama Dialogue on an annual basis.
