National Committee for the Prohibition of Development, Production, Use and Stockpiling of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction holds its 9th meeting



The National Committee for the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Use and Stockpiling of Chemical Weapons and the Destruction of Their Destruction today held its 9th meeting at the General Court of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting was chaired by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chairperson the Committee Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa and attended by the committee’ members who represent the relevant ministries and government agencies.

The meeting discussed the topics on its agenda and took note of the results of the Committee’s participation in the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency at its 63rd session held from 16 to 20 September 2019 at the Vienna International Centre (VIC).

It also reviewed the results of the workshop, held in the Kingdom of Bahrain from 8 to 10 October 2019, in cooperation with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons at the Kingdom’s invitation to the workshop to learn about the security and safety of chemicals and the best ways to deal with them in cases of emergency.

On the sidelines of the said workshop, the representative of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW ) appreciated the efforts made by the National Committee in implementing its pledges, which underlines the Kingdom's keenness to strengthen the existing cooperation with the OPCW.



The committee reviewed the draft of its new executive plan work where the Chairman of the Executive Bureau of the National Committee presented to the members details of the plan, including the tasks and responsibilities entrusted to the representing bodies of the Committee. National Committee.

These tasks and responsibilities necessitate all parties in the commitment to implement the Kingdom of Bahrain's obligations towards the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and contribute to the speedy implementation and achievement of goals and responsibilities of the National Committee.

Shaikha Rana pointed out that this executive plan will contribute significantly to the achievement of best practices in the implementation of tasks and competencies and contribute to making the Kingdom of Bahrain an international model worth emulating in the implementation of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, reviewing the future events that the National Committee is keen to attend.

At the end of the meeting, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked all members of the Committee, ministries and representatives of government agencies for their efforts that were behind the National Committee’s success.
