Ministry of Foreign Affairs holds opening ceremony of Diplomatic Forum
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, noted that the Day of Diplomacy, which was allocated by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, has become a unique annual event that highlights the role of Bahraini diplomacy in supporting the achievements of the Kingdom of Bahrain at various levels, based on a solid foundation of support by His Majesty the King and the reform approach, which developed the political, economic and social fields in the Kingdom.
This came as the Minister of Foreign Affairs participated in opening of the Diplomatic Forum today, in the presence of the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Cabinet Member of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Adel Ahmed Al-Jubeir, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Secretary General, Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, and a number of senior officials and members of the diplomatic corps.
Shaikh Khalid expressed deep thanks and appreciation for the keenness of the participants to share their expertise and successful practices, adding that the experience will strengthen the role of diplomatic missions abroad to continue the foreign proactive policy of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
He stated that the foreign policy of the Kingdom of Bahrain is committed to asserting the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Bahrain, as well as protecting its security, defending its interests, enhancing its global position and reputation, in addition to strengthening its relations with brotherly and friendly countries and developing cooperation with regional and international organizations. He added that the Kingdom is also keen to defend Arab and Islamic issues and promote the values of peace, coexistence and dialogue among various cultures, and combatting extremism and terrorism.
For his part, Minister Al-Jubeir stressed the depth of relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, noting the parallel policies of the two countries in facing challenges. He also noted the ability of both countries to gain more achievements in light of their joint cooperation and coordination.
The opening ceremony screened a documentary about Bahraini diplomacy in the past, the present and the future, and honoring of the Diplomatic Excellence Award winners from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York won the Best Practices Award in Diplomatic Representation for the adoption of the two draft resolutions submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain regarding the declaration of April 4 as International Day of Conscience and 4 December as the International Day of Banks. The Communication Directorate also won the Best Practices Award for Diplomatic Work, for their “Travel Safe” campaign, and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Kingdom of Thailand won the Administrative Leadership Award, while Mariam Nabeel Al Sharif received the Distinguished Diplomacy Award – General Court category for the initiative to update the fleet of vehicles in the missions of the Kingdom of Bahrain abroad. Mahmood Saeed Abdulaal from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain to Japan, was awarded the Distinguished Diplomacy Award - Missions of the Kingdom of Bahrain Abroad for the We Are Friends initiative.
The Diplomatic Forum sessions commenced this morning, where the first session was held under the theme (Government work .. Goals and developments) and was moderated by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for International Affairs, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa. The speakers of the first session were the Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Mutawa and the Minister of Finance and National Economy, Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
The President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa spoke in the second session which was moderated by the Chief Executive Officer of the Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa Academy for Diplomatic Studies, Dr. Shaikha Munira bint Khalifa Al Khalifa.
The third session, (the National Economy in Its Global Contexts), delivered by the Chief Executive Officer Economic Development Board, Khalid Ibrahim Humaidan.
