Foreign Minister attends signing ceremony of Bahrain-Israel Declaration of Peace, UAE-Israel Peace Accord
Designated by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashed Al-Zayani, took part in the signing ceremony of the Declaration of Peace between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Israel, and the Peace Accord between the United Arab Emirates and the State of Israel, which was held today at the White House in Washington, DC, in the presence of the US President Donald Trump.
The ceremony was attended by the Vice President of the United States, Mike Pence, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.H. Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Prime Minister of the State of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, and White House Senior Advisor, Jared Kushner.
In his speech, the Foreign Minister stated that the Declaration of Peace between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Israel is a historic step on the road to genuine and lasting peace, security and prosperity across the region, and for all who live there, regardless of religion, sect, ethnicity, or ideology.
He also stressed that today’s declaration was made possible by the vision, courage and commitment of His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, who - supported by the people of Bahrain - has protected, institutionalized, and enhanced Bahrain’s centuries-old spirit of coexistence and harmony, and has the wisdom to recognize that genuine cooperation is the most effective means to achieve peace and to safeguard the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, expressing his thanks to His Majesty for his vision of peace in the region, which is based on trust, respect and understanding between all religions and people.
The Foreign Minister extended his congratulations to the United Arab Emirates on signing this important peace accord with Israel, hailing the efforts of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, H.H. Shaikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who showed great leadership and foresight to overcome difficulties, make peace possible and secure a brighter future for the region.
He also expressed his appreciation to U.S. President Donald Trump and his Administration, whose statesmanship and tireless efforts have made this day possible, praising the role played by Secretary Pompeo, Senior Advisor Jared Kushner, and Special Representative Avi Berkowitz.
The Minister then extended his thanks and appreciation to Prime Minister Netanyahu for the steps taken by his government, and recognizing that enduring peace and security is only possible through a genuine engagement that protects the rights and interests of countries and peoples in the region.
He stated that this Accord is an important step, and that it is now incumbent on us to work urgently and actively to bring about the lasting peace and security our peoples deserve, underlining that a just and comprehensive two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict will be the foundation of such peace.
The Minister added that we have shown today that such path is possible, even realistic, noting that what was only dreamed of a few years ago is now achievable, and that we can see before us a golden opportunity for peace, security and prosperity for our region, stressing that we, along with our international partners, should waste no time in seizing it.
The signing ceremony was attended by senior US government officials, including civilians and military personnel, members of the Senate and Representatives, and Ambassadors of countries accredited to Washington. In addition, it was attended by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Washington, Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, MoFA Undersecretary for International Affairs, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, a large number of guests, and the accompanying delegation of the Foreign Minister.
