Foreign Minister chairs meeting of Higher Coordination Committee for Human Rights
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, chaired the meeting of the Higher Coordination Committee for Human Rights, held virtually today Tuesday, October 6, 2020 with the participation of Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Abdullah bin Faisal bin Jabr Al-Dossari and members of the Commission.
Dr. Zayani welcomed the members of the Coordination Committee and praised the concrete efforts they are making to enhance cooperation and joint coordination between all ministries and bodies concerned with human rights, highlighting the Kingdom's achievements and its pioneering initiatives to consolidate the position of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the field of human rights at regional and international levels.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs praised the visions and interest of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prime Minister, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister to consolidate the Kingdom's human rights system and enhance its leadership in this field.
Dr. Zayani referred to the lofty visions of His Majesty the King and his firm belief in the principles and values of tolerance and coexistence, explaining that the initiative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to sign a declaration in support for peace with the State of Israel embodies the original values of the people of the Kingdom of Bahrain who believe in tolerance and coexistence among the followers of religions, beliefs and cultures.
He stressed that the Kingdom's first goal from this step is to spread a message of peace to the world and to achieve hope for all generations and peoples of the region to live in a safe, stable, prosperous and sustainable environment, away from wars and conflicts, and to achieve security, stability and prosperity in the region.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs also thanked the esteemed government which in its endeavors to confront the repercussions of the Coronavirus outbreak and to preserve the health and safety of citizens and residents, has paid part of the salaries of the insured Bahraini employees in the private sector and workers in kindergartens and nurseries.
He also tanked the government for its support for taxi drivers, public bus drivers and driving instructors, and for exempting tourist facilities from paying tourism fees for a period of 3 months, to help them confront the repercussions of the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19).
Dr. Zayani affirmed the Ministry’s keenness to enhance cooperation and joint coordination between various ministries and government agencies to achieve more human rights achievements and initiatives in a way that serves the comprehensive reform approach of His Majesty the King and enhance Bahrain’s position at the international level.
The Committee also approved the report of the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography, and the report of the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict.
On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to Minister of Labor and Social Development and Chairman of the National Committee for Childhood Jamil bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan for preparing the aforementioned reports.
The committee also discussed a number of topics on its agenda and took appropriate decisions in their regard.
