GCC countries affirm their position in support of legitimate Yemeni government to get out of Houthi militias crisis
The Human Rights Council of the United Nations Office at Geneva, in its 48th session, currently held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, held a session within the framework of the interactive dialogue with the Group of International Regional Eminent Experts on Yemen, under item (2) of the Council’s agenda, during which His Excellency the Plenipotentiary Permanent Representative to UN, current Chairman of the Council of Ambassadors of the GCC, Ambassador Dr. Yusuf AbdulKarim Bucheeri, made an intervention on behalf of the GCC countries, in which he affirmed their position in support of the legitimate Yemeni government, and for its efforts to get out of the crisis caused by the Houthi militias since September 21, 2014.
His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Yusuf Bucheeri stressed that the solution to the Yemeni crisis lies in the Yemeni parties reaching a political solution in accordance with international references and international and regional initiatives, the latest of which was the initiative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for a cease-fire and the resumption of political dialogue. However, the Houthi militias rejected all international and regional initiatives aimed at saving Yemen.
His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Yusuf Bucheeri said that the GCC countries believe that the international politicization mechanisms, including the resolution on the "State of Human Rights in Yemen", do not serve the current Yemeni situation, but rather deepen the Yemeni crisis, as the GCC countries see that there is a blatant contradiction between the efforts of the Yemeni National Committee, which operates in accordance with Human Rights Council Resolution 45/26 “Providing technical assistance to Yemen and building its capacities in the field of human rights” listed under item (10) and the International Regional Panel of Experts. The GCC countries support the Yemeni national investigation and hope that they will receive the required support from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Yusuf Bucheeri pointed out that there are legal observations, exaggerations and abuses about the performance of the team of experts, calling on the team to take into account the contents of Security Council Resolution 2216, and to address the Yemeni crisis from the perspective of the coup carried out by the Houthi militias, not to ignore the violations of them that have torn Yemen, and work to contribute as required to achieve peace and security in Yemen.
